A team of photographers have been documenting the Islamic
monuments of Cairo. Several thousands photographs of these monuments are now
available for browsing and more are being added periodically. There are more
than 400 Islamic monuments surviving in the city and the aim of this Archive is
eventually to include photographs of all of them. The second step will be
recording the monuments around the Islamic world, with cities such as Fez,
Istanbul, Damascus and Isfahan fully exhibited.
In looking through the Archive you will be able to browse pages of photo
thumbnails, which are linked to bigger sized images. This database is searchable
in various ways, including simple and complex searches, to retrieve the required
photographs. The Help section explains in detail how to use the search tools
available.
All the thumbnails have captions with the monument name and a brief description
of the image. These link to pages with bigger images: 500 x 500 pixels and 800 x
800 pixels
